Mass Executions - How China Celebrates Anti-Drug Day

There’s nothing like a celebration. And what’s a better way to get into the swing of things than executing drug dealers? Executions in China are by firing squad or by a gunshot to the back of the head. The Chinese government has declared it will introduce lethal injections next year.

China Executes 20 For Anti-Drug Day
June 2009

At least 20 people were executed, an equal number condemned and hundreds put on trial as China marked a global anti-drug day with stark warnings of rising illicit drug use, state press said Friday.

The executions and trials took place throughout the nation in recent days, Xinhua news agency reported, with six convicted traffickers executed in Beijing alone on Thursday.

June 26 marks the UN's International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a date when China has traditionally executed and sentenced convicted drug traffickers to illustrate its resolve in fighting the scourge.

Among those sentenced to death was a Nigerian man identified by Xinhua as Osonwa Okey Noberts, who was convicted by a court in southern China's Guangdong province of trafficking nearly six kilograms (13.2 pounds) of heroin.

Other cases of international smuggling included a Chinese man convicted and sentenced to death in Beijing for trafficking 197 grams (7 ounces) of methamphetamine from North Korea, the China Daily reported.

Two ethnic Koreans were also being tried for smuggling the drug into China from the isolated nation, it added. Their exact citizenship was not given.

Meanwhile, police in China's westernmost region of Xinjiang this week destroyed six tonnes of heroin, opium and hemp smuggled in from Afghanistan and Pakistan and valued at 300 million yuan (44 million dollars), Xinhua said.

Courts across China handled more than 14,000 drug-related cases between January and May, up 12 percent from the same period last year, the report said, citing judicial authorities.

Nearly 6,400 people have been convicted of drug crimes and received sentences ranging from five years in jail to death over that period, it said.

"There is a growing trend toward making (illegal drugs) on the mainland instead of smuggling... from abroad," the China Daily quoted Zhang Jun, vice head of the Supreme People's Court as saying.

"There are more cases of smuggling and trading of chemical raw materials for drug production."

State media reports cited authorities saying "designer" drugs such as methamphetamine, ecstasy and ketamine were emerging as a new and dangerous segment of the drug market.

The drugs were gaining popularity among newly affluent young Chinese who viewed the use of such substances as a status symbol.

  1. What a disgrace. I can't believe this is happening, and I can't believe this is publicly supported. Those pictures are horrifying.

  2. Thanks Anon.
It's so easy to just say "shoot all drug dealers" without seeing the outcome. I'm sure some people will just shrug it off but I can't help wondering what sort of person they are. If anything, it shows how deep the anti-drug propaganda has effected the public.

  4. Liberals, of course, are horrified by these photos. The people being shot in the photose were drug dealers. They chose to get involved with drugs in a country that executes drug dealers. I am supposed to be upset by this? Shooting them is a humane way of killing them. Personally, I don't support humane methods of killing them. Drug dealers deserve a slow, painful, cruel death. Yes, I would execute drug dealers if given the opportunity, and yes, I would enjoy it. I enjoyed those photos and envied the men lucky enough to kill those scumbags. Give those drug executioners cigars! Good job, men!

  6. Anon(1/5/10 10:48 AM) - I agree with you totally.

Some people are so tied up with their own importance that they have no empathy or time to understand others. These sickening comments make me more wary of conservatives and right wing nutters than drug dealers.

    Greg ... you're a tool!

Trendvictim ... do some research and you may surprised how misguided you are.

Did I mention that Greg is a tool?

  7. Damn, what is wrong with people who think execution for victimless crimes is a moral thing? I think if drugs are illegal in a country, putting the drug dealers in prison is about the right punishment. Execution is for murderers, not drug dealers.

In a better world, all drugs would be LEGAL and NO ONE would use them. Then there would be no problem for anyone. *sigh*

  8. ts fucking appalling.Prohibtion is bollox and doesnt work but it is a profitable business for vested interests and things are getting worse.I have been on methadone for 20 years -maintenance, using the gamut of opiates-mind you heroin is not easy to get in NZ-last dude I knew of got busted eventually due to narcs and though had AIDS(from previously being in Bangkwan in Bangkok)got life imprisonment for importatation and possession of heroin for supply. The problem is the control and illegality of them without onerous bullshit.I have to drink at the chemist 3 times a week and cannot go away without arranging takeways does or if more than a few days- a dispending chemist as close as possible. Its like being on police bail but chemist bail.
It really pisses me off how we opiate dependent ppl are stereotyped, though not all of us are scummy stereotypical "junkies"(I hate that word), though the ones that are have tarred us all with the same brush to the general public who buy the media propaganda-I think anyways :D
I smoke pot daily often and have since before I had morphia/opium/etc.Ppl who have not ever tried anything dont have a bloody clue. For us we NEED it as food or air-withdrawls esp from methadone are indescribable- thats why noone ever gets off it that I know of-and they that do- relapse within a year. The drug isnt the problem- its the control and dispensing regimes via the M>O>H and the wanker politicians in charge.

  9. OH btw how either of our countries could be wanting to deal with a regime such as that of evil in China is beyond me- well its all about money and greed actually-not principle or human rights- the west is only too happy to conveniently turn a blind eye to the outrages committed even by their own governments in supposed democracies

  10. Thanks for your comment Kiwi666

This incredible quest to keep "junkies" in their place achieves nothing positive whatsoever. Until addiction/drug use is once again treated as a medical issue, it won't change.

  11. Hello...drug dealers only supply what people want....it is basic economics....supply and demand...people take drugs to escape reality...at least the reality that they live in...so don't blame the drug dealers....blame the society that destroys individuals

  15. There is absolutely no such thing as a victimless crime and too many of you are tools yourself for thinking there is. Someone is always being exploited in some way.
