The Daily Telegraph’s shocking disclosure that complicit doctors are assisting drug addicts obtain a taxpayer-subsidised heroin substitute for injection at the NSW State Labor government’s protected shooting gallery is a further argument for closure of the facility and a re-direction of the State’s resources.Luckily this sort of journalistic arse gas is just the last remnants of neocons, the religious right and modern conservatives. I assume this sort of rubbish is still printed because it’s popular. But popular with who? If you read the comments section of Akerman’s blog, you will start to notice a pattern. The same group of readers making the same sort of comments. Is this really indicative of the general public’s views or is it like flies gathering around excrement? From some of the comments, I feel it’s the latter.

that's it. time to remove the subsidies for these drugs, time to shut down this failed social experiment, time to tell those greenies and lefties who supported this joke it is over. the use of or purchase or the supply of illicit and illegal drugs is still a valid statute in the Crimes Act. I am sick and tired of my money being wasted on spaced out loons who have no control over their own lives and expect everyone else to pick up the tab. maybe the chinese have the right idea - execute the users and the dealers. certainly save some money thats for sure. if they OD then let them die.Do you find the above comment offensive? You should but especially with the zealots who encourage this behaviour. I am so sick of braindead, anti-drug crusaders who keep criticising the advancement of medicinal treatments for their own self righteous ideology. For example, Akerman was one of the loud opponents of the ACT heroin trials and has consistently hammered every Harm Minimisation strategy proposed in Australia. There has been great success since then from similar heroin trials overseas but no admission to being wrong from the Michelin Man. His worn out conservative monologue has become his trademark which is incidentally is now regularly used as material for humorous articles in bloggerland. But Akerman is more than just a nattering bullfrog for poking fun at. As I indicated, he has the ear of many gullible Australians who form their views from Akerman’s strange display of logic. When he adds ups 2 + 2 and comes up with 514 as the answer, there are gasps of “ooo” and “ahhh” as the troubled logic hits home to his readers. But although there might only be a certain type of reader who agree with his bizarre take on the world, it may still be enough to help influence a media sensitive Rudd government.

Maintaining addictions and providing refuges for clients of drug syndicates, is not going to help reduce the number of addicts.Again, he misleads the reader. To reduce the number of addicts was never a priority for the Sydney MSIC as he has been told on hundreds of occasions. Akerman regularly makes claims about Harm Minimisation programs failing by citing unrelated outcomes that weren’t part of the strategy. Instead of celebrating the expansion of options for addicts, Akerman expresses his desire to limit treatments to simple, outdated methods that fit in with his political views. He is dangerous to the advancement of medicine and the people it is trying to help. But like other moral crusaders, he cares not for the well being of others or the betterment of society but for his own selfish agenda.
Providing mental health services for addicts will.

The black market in oxycodone, a prescription pain killer subsidised under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and the Repatriation Pharmacuetical Benefits Scheme, is fuelled by greedy doctors and accelerated by the encouragement drug addicts receive from the welcoming staff at the government’s King Cross facility. The tiny percentage of drug users who visit the MSIC have no effect on the oxycodone market, what-so-ever. To suggest that the MSIC has anything to do with the increase in the oxycodone black market is farcical at best. Akermans logic is that 8,200 oxycodone injections at the MSIC has “accelerated” the increase in scripts for the drug to 1,630,000 per year, Australia wide. I’m sorry but I don’t know how to respond to this. It’s just too funny.

Get tough on medical practitioners who deal. Give the drug addicts one chance to get off it or execute them. End of story.or

lock up all drug users and their suppliers i have no remorse if they are lined up and shoot like terrorist they are the lowest form of life anywhere in the world bashing people in their homes at night and our police force just sit around do nothing while it goes on taking bribes and other forms of payments just to keep drug users on our street to warrant their pay claimsor
-Eric O'Malley
Heres an idea, don't let ambulance officers or doctors treat drug takers (illegal ones, not those that take drugs for pain), if they overdose, they die. Taking drugs is a choice. Maybe then people will think about their own actions...The level of anger and disregard for fellow humans is scary. Not one supporter of the articles had any basis of fact and they are all just opinions. On the other hand, the only comments that were based on evidence or research were discrediting the articles. This is common fare now for articles by our conservative journalists as they now have to face growing scientific evidence that upsets their selfish little worlds. Like religion having to eventually bow down before science, Akerman & co are doing their best to delay the inevitable. Issues like climate change, dwindling resources and drug addiction treatment can no longer be explained away as lefty ravings because our friend, the scientist puts reality back into our world. As the credibility of Akerman & co. is flushed away into the sewerage pit of self righteous obsession, all that is left is to hide behind their rabid supporters as an excuse to taken seriously.

Well said Birdster of Sydney. Drug addiction has only been a problem since 1953 in Australia. Before then, addicts were simply prescribed their drug of addiction until the "addiction cycle" finished. No crime, no overdoses and no prejudice. It was treated as a medical problem unlike today. For those buffoons who make wild assumptions that addicts are just weak, maybe they should spend 10 minutes researching what they are proclaiming as fact. The fact is - drug addiction is a physical problem from birth that cause many people to seek out a replacement for what the body doesn't produce naturally. Yes, you are basing your mindless views on here-say and myths. The responses to my comment:
-Terry Wright
"The fact is - drug addiction is a physical problem from birth that cause many people to seek out a replacement for what the body doesn't produce naturally." So this is the *fact* based on Terry Wright is it? What a load of nonsense. So the heroin user at the corner is just merely compensating for what the body is not giving him? What about the lady that's addicted to cocaine? You must be dreaming. Drug addicts ARE weak, there's no other explanation. They were weak when they couldn't say no to taking drugs in the first place and now they're too weak to stop their dependency on drugs. Don't blame it on genetics.
-Carmel
Terry Wright what planet are you from. Drug abuse did not start in 1953. There are records of cocaine addiction during the twenties and I suppose the opium dens in the 1800's didn't exist either. Some people were given the drugs in the past because they got their addictions from medical treatments during various wars. As for drugs being needed as a physical replacement for a natural deficiency and it being there since birth. What a crock. They may have a predisposition to addiction, but that is a psycholological one as they are not able to cope with the reality of life. The only ones who are born with an addiction are those whose parents where selfish enough to take drugs when they were in utero, they back up the addiction by showing thier children you need to drug yourself into oblivion to cope with life instead of facing your problems and dealing with them. A good reason why drug addicts should be steralised. Even If you do need to medicate for a chemical imbalance that does not mean doping yourself until you cant move or walking around in another world. Sounds like you are sprouting the typical self justification of a junkie.

The Socialist Party in Spain has won another term in office and are to introduce important social reforms. The reforms are new laws for gender equality, new procedures to speed up divorce and the introduction of same sex marriages.
The key election promises to be introduced are major wins for equality and of course fiercely opposed by conservatives and the Roman Catholic Church.
This also renews hopes for the successful heroin trials to be extended throughout the country that had been stifled by pressure from the conservatives.
Americanazim in Australia
Right wing hate blog, A Western Heart has a serious problem. They can't spell. Sure they have spell checkers but they seem to have them set to US English.
"And the public adulation Obama receives is eerily reminiscent of how Hitler was received by vast numbers of Germans. But you have to know history to realize that."
"When you mix Leftist Ideology and Socialized Medicine"
AWH is a an Australian right wing hate blog authored & managed by 'Staff Writers' which is made up of mainly Christian extremists, ultra right wing conservatives and Dr. Tingtong, president of the local model railway club. The common theme of the contributors is the hard leaning to Right-wing Authoritarianism.
AWH has an infatuation with American conservative ideals, especially those associated to the GW Bush administration. Links to their main contributors personal blogs are usually adorned with the American flag or have links to Israeli political issues. This hybrid of Australian politics and American conservative culture often includes references to American issues like gun rights, war glorification, GW Bush admiration, evangelistic ideals, pro Israeli aggression and other neocon ideology.
Most articles have familiar themes and attract like minded individuals.* These themes include racism, Christian extremism, anti feminism, crime reporting and anti left wing opinions. All very much part of the Ackerman, Bolt & Blair type politics and social commentary. AWH does have some non political articles including pictures of cars, girls and guns that they will never own or touch.**

Peirs Akarmen (aka Fatty Fatty Boom Boom) is a strong and robust reporter for the Daily Telegraph. A precise person who hates his name spelt wrong. A roly poly crusaders against drugs. A man of steel, a real man. Last Sunday on ABC's Insiders, a heated discussion on whether the 2010 summit board had enough women, zeroed in on comments made by the head the Affirmative Action group, Catherine Harris. The discussion brought up the point that Catherine Harris thought the male to female ration was out of whack and more women should be on the board.
Peers said:
"This is not what Mrs Harris is aspiring to because she is looking for sheer numbers".
Barrie Cassidy replied jokingly:
"I suspect she's Ms Harris".
Pieres response was:
"Oh, she is married to David Harris".
Of course, we can't have those new age fem-fascists challenging tradition, can we Mr. Akamann?.
Out of curiosity, I googled the man brick. To my surprise, this self appointed crusader against drugs is or was a cocaine user. He was also one of the goofballs who influenced Howard on rejecting the call for a heroin trial in the late 1990s. One link I found was to a NSW parliament hearing where independent Richard Jones (1988-2003) ripped into Peres for being a drug addict and for sexually harassing co workers. Ha Ha Ha, Oh I laughed so long and loud. This fat cockhead who is so vocal in his disgust of drug users is himself a druggie. I have even had a run in with him about drug policy on his blog where he declared:
"zero tolerance is better than that idiotic policy of harm minimisation".
I suppose he could afford his cocaine and didn't need help so why should he care for those who can't.
Here is a snippet from that parliament hearing in 1997:
The joke is that Piers Akerman, when he lived in Albion Street in the 1970s, used LSD and marijuana regularly. He also used cocaine regularly when he was in the United States of America, in Los Angeles and Washington. I have spoken to someone who shared a number of cocaine lines with Piers Akerman. He was a drug addict. He also sexually harassed young female employees of News Limited in Washington and was sent back to the United Kingdom, where he tried to become the editor of the London Times but was denied that. He tried to get a job recently with the Sydney Morning Herald but was denied that, too. Here we have this hypocrite who is working hard to oppose what would have been a very useful reform in the drug fight in this country and now he is working against the interests of the community by torpedoing that. He himself was a drug addict and he still is a drug addict on legal drugs to this very day.
Who Reads The Daily Telegraph
I always get angry as I read through their website but then I start to lighten up. Then I start to laugh ... I actually laugh out aloud. The Daily Telegraph is arse paper, paper for wiping shit away and flushing down the toilet. The readers / commentators are morons, it employs Tim Blair, the most overrated writer in Australia and it considers Piers Ackerman a journalist. It seeks out the knockers, the loud mouths, the bigots. It stirs up trouble and then looks for a reaction ... usually from the conservatives who love to preach so much. Their are no standards here, anyone and everyone is a target. They have no shame and will report anything to get a reaction from readers ... whether it's true or not. This is not journalism, it's infotainment. Think Heath Ledger.
Below are two examples of this great Aussie newspaper.
Moron Enhancing Drugs
Well Fuck Me! Why are some NRL supporters soooo stupid ... especially those that are Daily Telegraph readers. They are a species of bozzo that could not be properly explained by Darwin.
Former test captain, Andrew (Joey) Johns scored number one in a recent poll by Rugby League Week magazine to determine the best player from the past three decades. Rugby League Week magazine also has a title for a group of the best players ever called 'The Immortals' and they are now considering Andrew Johns as the next member of this elite group. The Daily Telegraph reported the story and surprisingly only had a small reference to drugs.
Last year and only three months into his retirement, Johns made an admission of using recreational drugs all throughout his career. It of course shocked many and even with the disclosure that he suffers from bipolar, it failed to stop the stampede of critics calling for his head on a stick. Johns later revealed in his autobiography that he was now clean and explained his drug use as probably due to the pressure to succeed. This also failed to impress and the usual suspects of knockers, moralist and even the then PM, John Howard, declared Andrew Johns a disgrace.
The comments in the The Daily Telegraph were pathetic with ignorance. Many readers somehow confused recreational drugs with performance enhancing drugs. About every 5th comment called him a drug cheat and many of those also called him a liar. He was neither. Every so often someone would explain the difference but they kept coming - Andrew Johns is a drug cheat! Someone did point out that taking recreational drugs would actually hinder his performance, not enhance it. One commentator (dogforlife of downtownbne) obviously read about the differences but came up with his own conclusion.
'...He is a drug cheat and yes it is performance enhancing, he used it to blow off steam and cope with the pressure of public life, therfore enhancing his capacity to cope with the pressures surrounding such employment ...'
Oh dear god, who are these morons? They all like to think they are moral pundits but without the necessary qualifications or required discipline to do research but they are simply loud mouth self important bogans. The sad fact that he suffers from bipolar is bad enough but to know so many bogans can't comprehend this disorder must have some effect on him. He never asked for help or made any excuses. He paid for his drugs and there wasn't any public displays of intoxication. He didn't grope anyone or get arrested. He played magnificent football and kept at peak fitness. He did what he was paid to do and more.
The IQ of these readers must be below average and The Daily Telegraph just draws them into one place, like flies around a turd. The following quote sums up most of the nasty comments. (steve of the shire) said this:
'... in any other sport johns would have had to return all medals & honours. drugs in sport is not on, johns admits to being a junkie & lying to the footy world for 10 years, now he get srewarded with league immortality - sorry m8, not me ...'
Film Night in Porn Prison
Oh dear, a recreation officer working at a juvenile detention centre rented Wrong Turn 2: Dead End which is R-rated and it was shown to a group of inmates. It never mentions how old they are but does claim one inmate was 15. the The female recreation officer has been roasted for not checking the rating. More importantly, she should have checked IMDB to see how bad the acting was. Apparently is it a woeful movie. The Daily Telegraph ignores the acting and directing and instead is screaming blue murder at the content ... typical. The Daily Telegraph describes the film as:
R-rated slasher film, which featured nudity and sex scenes.
The film also includes an incest scene between two flesh-eating zombies. Other scenes include a woman being cleaved in half with an axe.
The newspaper also had more revelations:
The Daily Telegraph understands two of the inmates were serving sentences for sex-related crimes yet were exposed to an oral sex scene and semi-naked women.
The Daily Telegraph often likes to quote extreme views and this time it's the 'children's saviour', Former Children's Court magistrate Barbara Holborow:
'Where do they get these people from? When you put a child into a detention centre it's not just to punish them, it's to rehabilitate and educate them, How can you rehabilitate kids if you're going to show them filth like that. Whoever the person is, they should be sacked.'
Maybe these little angels had their world turned upside down and probably will never recover from such 'filth'. Maybe showing our young these movies is evil and their souls are now lost forever. Maybe these hugely popular movies made especially for male teenagers are the source of corrupt morals and who knows where they will be in 10 years time? Maybe a diet of the Home Alone series or The Incredibles is more appropriate for these young, vulnerable minds. The important issue is; unless people stop upsetting the self righteous and the morals crusaders, The Daily Telegraph will run out of stories.
Andrew Bolt is a whacker.
A whacker is a light weight, someone not to be taken seriously. I don't call him a wanker or contemptuous or anything so grandeur. He doesn't really reach those standards because really ... he is just irrelevant. Irrelevant where it really counts... in the serious news media. No media commentator or organisation takes him seriously ... do they? Extreme views that are so far out in the either of wobbliness usually stay out there. For some reason his views are taken on board by some but I think we all know why. They have to go somewhere and hey, why not keep them in one spot. It clears up other media sites for proper discussion. I like the idea that AB can soak up the nutters that would normally go wasting our bandwidth with dribble and drive them to somewhere they can take each other seriously. I was astounded when I saw his web stats but then I realised there must be a few million in Australia who still hold Howard's ugly Australia dear to their heart. This is good though as these whacky people can go from Bolt to Ackerman to Blair and back and never have to enter mainstream again. If it makes them happy ... then I am happy.
Someone once said to me about AB articles, "it's not reporting, it's just too silly for that". It was then it that it struck me that he was right ... it's not reporting or journalism ... it is just plain silliness. His reports are like comedy skits, mocking someone like himself ... an Australian Sean Hannity. It was then I learnt not to get upset over his ridiculous articles because they are just like the commentators from the American right. Pro-Bush, pro-war, anti-liberterian comedians commentators who I read often for a laugh. Now I love him. Like Alan Jones spots on Channel 9 each morning, I now look forward to AB's new insight each day. Light relief.
Now here's a great example of AB doing his best:

If I had made this up, Beecher would complain the caricature was too crude. Golly, satire is hard when the real stuff is like this.
1/ AB really misses the point doesn't he. People's choice: The 20 Most Appealing People is a reader's poll, not an editorial.
2/ In true AB style, Crikey's choice: The 20 Most Appalling People is not available to the public and can't be printed so instead AB put's up People's choice: The 20 Most Appalling People but forgets to change Crikey's choice to People's choice. Then he claims they are biased because it is Crikey's choice.
This is such a shoddy attempt at creating a controversy that I am still laughing.
And there's more...
